By now, you will have seen some videos and read a few items about children's rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Please take a moment and write about why you think
your teacher has chosen to explore the topic with you. Feel free to address any of the following:
What does this have to do with my education?
Why is this something that I need to know?
Why am I going to be communicating with students who are not my age or may not go to my school?
I think it's important to learn about Children's Rights so that when our rights are violated, we would know and be able to do something about it. -Emmy Hewitt
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea.

DeleteAs with almost everything, Emmy, knowledge is power. If you know what is possible, you cannot be satisfied with less.
DeleteWhen we know what we should receive I feel like some people may use it to their own benefit. So maybe it. is power but it can also cause a big mess
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI think this is good because kids might not violate laws.
DeleteI agree Lil Mitch @Mitchel Fordyce
DeleteThat is true. If there is ever a problem, then we can defend ourselves.
DeleteI agree. If you didn't know you have rights then you couldn't do anything about it.
DeleteI agree that it is an important topic to be discussing I also think is important to know your rights but I don't think that a couple of middle school students/college students from Waterloo, IA could really do anything about what the leaders of our country are deciding not to do in regards to signing the UNCRC document.
DeleteI agree with Ireland, it's important, but we may not be able to do much about our country signing the document.
DeleteI believe that some people will use it for their own benefits.I still believe its important for everyone to know their rights no matter what they tend to do with that information.
DeleteI agree with this because it is important to know what to do when our rights are violated.
DeleteVery good point Emmy. :)
DeleteI agree because we will know if we have the right to it and if if we get violated, what we have the right to do and not. That will help you not get violated.
DeleteI agree. You made a very good point. I think that every one should know there rights in case they are validated.
DeleteI also agree if children know their rights they can not be taken advantage of
DeleteWill we benefit from this information after we learn about it? -Ava Shepard-Cano

DeleteAva, I hope that there will be a benefit from what we learn about children's rights. I think that understanding the complex connections between people and ideas is a life long challenge. We may find that the best benefit to ourselves may come from the way we view the world and our commitments to the people we share it with.
DeleteGood question Ava. :)
DeleteI agree because I think that we totally will benifit from it. We will know our rights for what we have the right to. We will also know what we do not have the right to.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this because if there happen to be an argument against a child it would be able to be solved quickly and as you said, without anybody getting hurt.
DeleteI agree with you Abbie, because if there's a problem and we want to do something about it we can kind of get an idea of what were capable of doing and not doing.
DeleteI agree with you because some kids get hurt because we do things we have the rights to even know some parents say we do not have.
DeleteI think that you are right because if their are kids getting hurt because people that can do something don't know about this and if people are saying that we don't have the rights that we know that we have then we need to do something about that and then if people know then we can start to do something about it.
DeleteI agree Abbie. The more informed we are, the better we are able to help ourselves and others.
ReplyDeleteI agree Abbie. The more informed we are, the better we are able to help ourselves and others.
ReplyDeleteI feel as if the more we know about our rights the more wee can protect them.
ReplyDeleteThat's true. If we know more, we will be able to protect our rights with our knowledge.
DeleteI concur.
DeleteChildren's rights are important because then young fellas know what they can do in the great US of A.
ReplyDeleteYea people in this country like parents don't have those things they need and they need living things.
DeleteI agree, America, the greatest country needs to keep all the resources and money in America. We need to help our homeless and improve our army to stay at the top. @YoungMitchel
DeletePeople should also know their limits.
DeleteI believe we are learning about this topic because it helps us understand what is going on elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteI honestly never thought of it like that but now it makes sense. I feel like the more we know the more we can understand other places.
DeleteI agree with that. Most people say "I'm going to donate food/money/water to This Country because they don't have a lot of that" and we understand that, but we need to realize that countries may need more than food/water/money; they need rights.
DeleteWe will also understand the organization more and be able to help when we're older if we are interested.
ReplyDeleteThis is true, but some people just simply aren't interested, like myself.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteIf we learn about our rights, we will be able to defend ourselves if we ever have a problem or get into some sort of trouble.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, it will be good to know so we can defend what is ours. Also though it will be use full to help other people with this knowledge.

ReplyDeleteWhy do you guys think the USA hasn't signed the UNCRC?
ReplyDeleteBecause we like to kill children.
DeleteI think that the U.S. need to because it gives a little more protection and almost every other country has signed it. So the U.S. needs to.
DeleteHow much do you think UNCRC will affect the amazing-ness of feminism?
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's meant to focus on feminism so much as protecting children who, until they know about these rights, would grow up living a poorer quality of life.
DeleteI think Prouty just thought of something of the top of his head.

DeleteA couple questions...
ReplyDelete- Why is the U.S government refusing to sign this treaty?
- Why are we researching this specific topic?
- Why do we not like entering big treaties?
- Why does the U.S believe that we should be able to beat their children?
- If we contributed to the articles... Why do we disagree?
Few ideas
- If we sign this we could potentially have problems getting it ratified.
- If Obama did bring this to the senators he would look good and the senators would look like the bad guys
- I think that if we assigned this we would be better able to defend ourselves.
- Children should have their rights and even if the government refuses to sign this most of the ideas are shared in the U.S.
- If the government did sign it they could just as easily back out of it so in theory there would be no problem with them trying to change our laws.
Maybe we should make a list of why we should and shouldn't sign the UNCRC. If we do, we may be able to find out why we haven't signed it.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea. I know we have reasons to not sign it, and we have reasons to sign it, so maybe making one will help us understand.
DeleteThat's a good thought; Pros and Cons lists help a lot!
DeleteThat sounds like a good idea because it may turn out that their are more reasons to sign it then to not sign it.
DeleteIt's increasingly apparent that signing the treaty is a good idea due the mass amount of places who have already signed. A pro-con list done by the US government would be worthless. The US is much too greedy to even be willing to put themselves up for lawsuits to lose money. The children's rights on this are not as important to the US as power and money through the minds of our nation.
DeleteI believe learning about children's right is important, because we must be aware of what rights we have as humans. We also should become more aware of how rights are being abused in some places. I do question why America hasn't sighed the treaty of rights. Yes, we are reluctant to sign international treaties, however I feel as if this will be beneficial.
ReplyDeleteWe've all thought about the benefits, but are there any ways it could affect us negatively?
DeleteHave you ever though about the reasons why we have these rights? And if so, do you think we deserve more or less?
DeleteI think learning about children's rights is a reasonable topic because as a child myself, I feel extremely fortunate with my upbringing. I have options and opportunities that will help me become successful later on but other kids my age don't have available to them. They didn't choose to be born so it's not their fault that they are the way they are. Their future shouldn't be determined by their household. By learning about these problems, I think people even as young as I could try and do something so we can try to help those children. With our help, they could see a brighter future by receiving essentials from food and water to education and a safe home.
ReplyDeletePreach
DeleteI agree
DeleteI agree with your wording and your overall meaning to your paragraph. P.S. you always have been a good writer.
DeleteI agree. I feel like Mr. Prouty and Mr. Boley would do something like this.
DeleteI agree with everything you had. Also I think you went very deep into the topic. This is a very good reason to know your rights.
DeleteI think that learning about this isn't worthwhile because many people do know about this topic. Meaning that i doesn't matter if I know about it because we live in a place where our government tries to help everyone that they can (most of the time) and people will either agree or disagree and I can base my opinion on the people that it will actually affect the same way it does me.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with your opinion because even though this can be a very important/ serious topic, not everyone likes it.Unless this is happening to you or you are very interested in this topic, I don't feel you have to learn on this topic.
DeleteObama said before he was elected that he thought it was embarrassing we haven't ratified it. He said he would look into it, which he hasn't done. We should look into a petition or something.
ReplyDeleteObama said before he was elected that he thought it was embarrassing we haven't ratified it. He said he would look into it, which he hasn't done. We should look into a petition or something.
ReplyDeleteIf we did this - the petition - would we make that big of an impact? Considering that we are just from Waterloo/Cedar Falls Iowa.
DeleteI really think that The USA should sign the UNCRC document thingy and get it over with.
ReplyDeleteExplain and expand on this idea.
DeleteI agree, we should really just do it.
DeleteExplanation: I think that it would be a very good idea for the children of our country if our leaders would just sign the document so we can have the same rights as people all over the world or the leaders of this country need to hike up their skirts and sign the UNCRC already.
DeleteWe are going to communicate with other students of different ages and locations due to the fact that they bring different views and standpoints the table and help us see different ways of thinking. It also helps in the acknowledge how and why they see different than us.
ReplyDeleteI think that we are learning this knowledge because that we are children ourselves, and that these rights apply to us. We need to know about ourselves and how we are treated in society.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more. Since we are children, it is a good idea/ important that we understand the right we have. Being treated fairly is something we should all have the right to learn about/ do. Great Comment.
DeleteI defiantly agree with this. The more we know about the rights we have the more we can protect ourselves.
DeleteI think this helps with our education in the sense that it may or may not involve us and or the people around us. Adding on, the U.S. needs to contemplate signing the UNCRC
ReplyDeleteI think that we should know about our rights because we are children and these rights have to do with us. A lot of people probably won't really care about this topic but later on if something happens, we know our rights and we can defend ourselves.
ReplyDeleteYes technically we are still kids and this can help us know our rights.
DeleteI agree with you, it will be useful in the future if we learn our rights now
DeleteI agree. Also, we can use this knowledge to protect other children's rights.
DeleteI think you are right that if we know our rights it may protect us later.
DeleteI think this topic is important because we need to understand what rights we have. Although many of the rights listed are part of our everyday life, it's not like that everywhere. Culture is one of the most important factors when considering adopting these rights; in our culture, many of the rights are things we, as "children" have come to accept. Article 28 is a good example: summed up, it says we have the right to an education. In the United States, we're REQUIRED to go to school, but in countries like Turkey, Russia, or (rural) China, it's a rarity to get a good-quality education. We have a lot of students (in ELP specifically) who want to go to another country, be it for the People to People trip, or to live and work there in later life.
ReplyDeleteI think we should just sign onto the UNCRC because it would help keep the children in America safe that don't know about it and are getting neglected and they can't do anything about it because they don't know about it.
ReplyDeleteI agree, it would be a lot easier if they just signed it and be done with it
DeleteI also agree with you. It will do more help than harm.
DeleteWe are learning about this to increase our cultural diversity. The US should sign the UNCRC because it guarantees children protection from unfair treatment and abuse.
ReplyDeleteI believe that we are learning about children's rights so we can learn about what we deserve as children. I also believe we need to know this information so we know our rights. We should also be learning about this topic because we should know the good and bads that can happen in life, especially to children.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever thought the effects of the rights of children? And what do you think would happen if we had no rights or almost no rights?
DeleteI think children would get treated the same. For the countries who don't treat children right now, were still doing it before and the countries that did this stuff before the UNCRC have treated them well all along. It all depends on the countries standers.
DeleteI believe Mr. Prouty is making us to this unit in order for us to learn and understand the right we have possession of at birth. I think he wants us to know what the rights are and how they work since they are specific things that we must be given. If we did not learn about this now we probably would have gone into life stumbling around like newborns and being trampled like morons since we did not know what rights we had in this world. It also would give us a guideline to what we can and can't do.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a previlage not a burden
DeleteI think this is a good thing - learning about children's rights - so that we know what we can and can't do in the USA.
ReplyDeleteI think we are learning about children's rights because we are children, and we should know our rights. I think this is useful information to learn because if you do not know what rights you have and do not have, that could become an issue when you get older. I think this is a good age to learn about our rights as humans.
ReplyDeleteI believe the US signing the UNCRC is important so all children will be treated the same. It's important since a lot of restrictions to children come from adults. Some people don't let their child get an education and keeps the child from having a successful future. Still today, a child's race, culture, and even appearance changes the way the kid is treated by peers. If this was stopped in the near future there would be less arguments against race/culture and many more children would be able to get the education they need instead of being constantly informed of what their doing 'wrong'.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with melisa because kids should not be treated so differently from adults. I think that kids shouldn't always be so harshly punished because we are humans too we are just born after them so there shouldn't be such a difference. We don't treat people one year older different than us so why do we treat people 40 years older any differently.
DeleteI feel that it is important to be educated on your rights so that you can learn how to protect them. It is also important to know about the rights of children so that you can educate others about their rights, and the importance of protecting them. It think that it is very, very, very important to protect the rights of children so that they can be safer, more successful, and happier.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the rights of children are important and it is vital to educate both adults and children on these rights. I think that once you find out about something that you are supposed to have, like a family heirloom or the right to education, the more likely you are to work, or even fight, for what is yours. That is why I think that education on these matters is important in the process of stopping the violation of these rights.
I agree with you @Samantha Hadlock I think it is very important also to be educated on your rights, also so all children and adults can know when someone is violating a child, when that child thinks its okay, because that child has not been educated properly on these rights. The Children across America, who's rights have been violated, should deserve to be educated on what rights they do and don't have, so there is a large chance that it won't happen again. I also think that us as the U.S.A needs to step up and sign the URCRC so that these children and adults do not get their rights violated.
DeleteI also believe that the rights of children are important, once you educate people more on these rights, they can be more happy, healthier, and successful in the future generations. Once that people find out about what you are supposed to deserve, fight for what they are entitled to, which is their own rights.
I agree it is very important to know your rights so you can defend yourself if somethings come up.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteFor the countries that don't follow the UNCRC rules do they get punished or does nothing happen?
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Aliyah, I wonder if the United states would join sometime. Do you think we get punished in some sort of way? Are we enemies with the countries that have signed the UNCRC?
DeleteI think that its important to be taught about human and child rights, because these are things that we should know so we can help others and ourselves. This is something that should be part of an education because if we don't know our rights then its hard to be able to stand up for one another. You especially if you don't know if you're standing up for the rights thing with the right reasons. Also if we know about these things we can help other and prevent any harm done to anyone. Even though we may not have known them before now that we do we can protect others and you.
ReplyDeleteI think its important to learn about all this stuff so were aware of what children can do. I also think this education is important so that later in life we can defend ourselves in any which article.
ReplyDeleteI think that it is important to be educated in the right's for children so that we know what are rights are. I think it is very important that not only children but also adults now what there rights are. This is important because when people are being treated unfairly we should know that its not fair and be able to explain why its not. So many people are being treated unfairly and don't know that they shouldn't be so that why they should be educated on what is right and what isn't.
ReplyDeletesame
DeleteYes I agree, for if they aren't educated on the topic they may think their life is completely worthless
DeleteYes i agree, if we aren't educated about the rights of the child,
DeleteWe might get hurt because people might trick us about the rights(in a bad way) and we get hurt.
I think that this is important because you need to know your rights. Also because we are kids and we need to be aware of what we can and can't do. Most of us probably won't care about this topic but we still need to know for later in life.
ReplyDeleteI agree because I don't really care about this topic right now.
DeleteThis is important to know because if we ever do have a problem we will know what to do about it. Also because we need to know what rights we have as a human/child. We also must be more aware of what rights we have and how people are abusing them.
ReplyDeleteOr following them
DeleteI agree Rene
DeleteI agree as well. Most of these rights I had never even knew about or even thought about. People should definitely learn about this in school. It is very important.
DeleteI think the US should sign the document, but have we thought about that would change if we did sign it? I mean, we have laws that are established that are kind of related to some of the articles on the document. Would we really get anything more from signing this? ~Alexus Imbouathong
ReplyDeleteI think we would have a lot more rights such as -- as we discussed yesterday-- the right of privacy. But I do agree that we should sign the document
DeleteWhat do you think would happen if the U.S. signed it?
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteIf others don't know their rights they can't stand against what others are -- if they're doing something wrong that is. Also I believe that we should be able to know what we can and cannot do
ReplyDeleteI think that it's a good idea to learn about our rights as children. Even if any of us never have to use this knowledge to defend ourselves, we can use it to defend others. As we have already seen, kids in other countries aren't being treated equally, and we need to help them. Learning about this topic will only help.
ReplyDeleteI think that Prouty and Boley are making us do this unit on children's rights because they want us to be informed of our rights so we know if we are being treated fairly. And so we know if someone else is being or not being treated fairly. It may be boring at times but they are just looking out for us
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree with you Mason. I too think they are looking out for us and want us to know so we don't get hurt.
DeleteI agree with you
DeleteI like the wording of that how you say "they are looking out for us" it gives some power to your comment, keep up the good work!
DeleteI think they are doing these to keep us save
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI think that it is important so that we know our rights and other peoples rights. We need to know our rights so we can stick up for them and we need to other peoples rights so we don't violate there rights.
ReplyDeleteNice point but sometimes you don't want to stick up for certain people
DeleteI think that we (kids) should know our rights. It tells what we have the Right to and what we don't. It also gives us some guidelines on if we do something if we have rights ageist it, or rights that will encourage it. When kids know the rights of us, they can know if they are being treated fairly and giving/treating us how we deserve. -Victoria Knight
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that it is important for us to learn our rights so we know when we are being mistreated.
DeleteI agree that children should know there rights
DeleteKendra finch February 11th , 2015
ReplyDeletei think that we need to know thees things for school because if you wanted to do more with this then you could take classes in collage and then maybe you could work with thees people and get kids the rights that they deserve.
I agree with that because when we know our rights, we have the rights to like things. (For example) If someone is telling you that you can not like somethings thing, we can tell them that they are wrong and that you have the right to like that thing.
DeleteThat's right. I didn't even think about that. I think more people should know about these rights.
DeleteI agree. Lots of people still don't know about the rights that they have which is unfair. You have a good point.
DeleteI agree because in school if someone is getting bullied than they have the right to tell someone or if they are told they can't go to a certain class because of their race then they can just tell someone because they have the right to stand up for their self.
DeleteI agree lots of people need to know these for collage if you wanted to be a lawyer for example
DeleteI think it is important to learn about these rights because its important to know about the rights that we could have and what other children do have. I still don't understand why the senate wont just sign it and add it to the constitution.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I just don't understand why the united states wont sign it either. It doesn't make that much sense.
Delete
ReplyDeleteI think this applies by telling me about what other things are happening. It tells me how these things affect me. Tells me about what my rules are.
I believe the two ELP teachers ( Prouty and Boley ) want us to learn about this topic because we are children, yes children do stupid things and break rules but we need these rights and we need to know and acknowledge them because it can help us be brave or strong and even just feel protected. Although we might already think we know the rights we have or need, there's much more than that. Learning these things can be used currently or in the future in emergencies or even just to inform others about our rights.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very good point.
DeleteI agree, that was a good use of comedy whan you said us as children are stupid. P.S. You know you called your self stupid right
DeleteThat is a very good point. I didn't even know about these rights until now. I believe that children should have rights just like adults. We are all living things with feelings. The only difference is age and wisdom. We deserve to have rights too.
DeleteI agree with you because I feel the same way. When I know that I have the right to something, I feel more protected and proud of what it is. It makes me feel more confident about me.
DeleteI agree, when we are kids we probably do need to learn about these early so that when we are adults we will know that we have some say in what we do, say, or where we go.
DeleteYes, I agree, life is supposed to be worth it not being controlled.
DeleteI agree. Also I think you went into the topic well. This is a very good reason to know your rights.
DeleteI think we need to know about it because instead of thinking about ourselves we shoud think about how other people suffer around the world and how children's rights have also helped people in so many ways.
ReplyDeleteI believe that we are learning about child rights so we can fully assess them, determining if we agree, and how we might change them. Maybe this unit has something to do with the fact that the U.S has yet to ratify child rights.
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree with this, since we're the future. I feel that knowing our boundaries, like you said, will help us form an opinion of places.
DeleteDo you think the U.S. will eventually ratify children's rights?
ReplyDeletehopefully they will because it needs to be done people are suffering because of it !
DeleteWe need to be educated about the rights of the child because we might have bad hings happen. We could get kidnapped if we didn't known about our rights. Just like the kids in India, if we did not know about our rights, we might even have to eat in a different place. If these rights did not exist, the world would begin to be chaos. I also think we need to know about the UNCRC because as shown in the video, kids who didn't know about their rights got messed with and possibly got hurt. People like us don't want that to happen. We don't want to get hurt.
ReplyDeleteYour human rights are good to know because it tells you that you have some power in what do. If you didn't know what the rights were then people would "bully" you or "control" you. If Martin Luther King Jr. didn't know he had human rights than certain races wouldn't even be able to go to school together.
ReplyDeleteI think that Mr. Boley is teaching us this because if we get taught about children's rights then that means we know our rights also since we are kids. Learning about this topic can keep kids safe. For example, if a kid didn't know about a certain right that they have, they could get hurt. We may think that this is boring topic at times, but it will help us in the future. That is why I think it is important to learn about children's right.
ReplyDeleteI think that it is important for us, as kids, to know our rights because knowing our rights can help us know when they are being violated. Then, if we know our rights are being violated, we can do something about it. We will also know when someone else is being mistreated and we can do something about it.
ReplyDeleteI agree you strongly because it is really important that kids know their rights because we do need to know when our rights are being violated
DeleteI agree because we really do need to know our right and if we/ someone violates them.
DeleteYes and no because we have similar rules
ReplyDeleteI think the reason we are learning about this is so we have a better understanding of our rights and others rights. For example the women in Turkey why don't they know they have rights. Why don't the children get treated with the rights they deserve? These are all questions i am wondering about the rights of children and even people.
ReplyDeleteIsaiah Schaetzle I agree- why don't women in Turkey know about the rights that they should have but children and teenager in other countries are learning about them? I believe that everyone should know what rights they deserve. I also believe children should know their rights and make sure their rights are not being violated. Children should be able to have their rights the same way adults have theirs.
DeleteI think that Mr.Boley is teaching us this because as kids we need to know what rights we have. And also what rights we don't have. They want to inform us that we should be treated fairly. And If we are not being treated fairly or if someone isn't being treated fairly then we should be able to tell if that is happening.
ReplyDeleteIt's important to learn these rights so your life won't be stolen from you. So people won't hurt you and blame you. It's your life, don't let it be taken from you.
ReplyDeleteI think it's important to learn about children's rights because kids should have the right to defend themselves when a problem occurs. This subject has to do with education because education is the most important thing when you're a child. - Ehku Htoo
ReplyDeleteI think it's important to inform children about these rights. In the event of where the child needs to defend their self verbally, they should know these rights. It's unnerving to know that some kids in other countries have these rights, but they don't know them. Why give them these rights if you're not even going to tell them about them? It's monstrosity and outrageous!
ReplyDeleteI agree. I didn't realize the rights that children have and don't have and I don't understand why the US didn't ratify UNCRC.
DeleteI think we need to be educated and educate other people about human rights. I think this because it will persuade us to make the right decision. If we know our rights we can stand up for our self. But some people don't know their rights so they think they can't stand up or them self. Sometimes we have a limit to our rights and we don't know it so we get punished.
ReplyDeleteI think that learning about the UNCRC is a great idea. I also think that being discriminated because of age, race, gender, etc is not good. I really encourage the United States to ratify the UNCRC. It is a great idea to learn about the UNCRC at a young age. We need to know what our rights are.
ReplyDeleteNicholas Anderson I believe that people shouldn't be discriminated because they are younger or because they are African American or because they are female. Discrimination doesn't make sense to me because everybody was made to stand out, not be the same. If everybody was the same the world would be super boring.

ReplyDeleteI think that we are learning about the UNCRC is so that we can know our rights and know if they are being violated or not. I also think we are learning about this so that when we have children we know what their rights are and hopefully we don't violate them when we get older. I personally hope that the United States ratifies it soon.
ReplyDeleteI think that we are learning about the UNCRC is so that we can know our rights and know if they are being violated or not. ReplyDeleteI think the two ELP teachers are making us learn about this subject because if kids don't know there rights. They technicality don't have them. So they want us kids to know what rights we do have and can stick up for ourselves and be able to speak out when we don't think something is right.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Why give children rights if they don't know they have them?
DeleteI love the idea of studying UNCRC! I think it is important to know what rights we have as a child. It also can keep us safe, and it will help us know when to tell someone of something that is happening. I also believe that every child should live happy life and be safe. It can also help adults make better decision's on how to treat their child. All the way around it is a good idea.
ReplyDeleteI think we need to be educated about our rights as people and educate other people about their rights. It is important because people need to know what is right and wrong and that there are limits to certain things. We also need to be able to defend ourselves if such problems arise. Education such as this is a great thing and should be introduced throughout the world because of these reasons.

ReplyDeleteI think that learning about UNCRC is a great idea because we have a right to know our rights and if we know those rights we could continue educating people about those rights until we all have a basic understanding of our rights and how to fight back from not knowing those rights before. I also think that this is something we need to learn because in some countries, those rights are not respected and the people are not aware of those rights to be able to do anything about it. Another fact about the importance of learning UNCRC is that the US has yet to ratify it, but it doesn't hurt to know what our basic rights are. We have a privilege to learn about this and if we collaborate with students from other schools or a different age, we get a new perspective.
ReplyDeleteI had a conversation with my father last night about the topic of why the U.S. would not ratify these rights for children in the U.S. My father responded that the U.S.is and has been wishing to be independent. The fact that we are being asked to do something from countries that are believed to be lower than us makes not want to listen because of the fact that we wish to be independent.

ReplyDeleteI think you should know what this is because you should not take anything for advantage like school. You should not take advantage of school because some kids do not get to go school. This has to do with my education because maybe you want to help but if you do not know where to help you can not help.
ReplyDeleteI very much agree with Dylan. Everysigle child in the world should be able to go to school
DeleteI think children's rights would be a great thing to study because maybe some kids are not getting all of their rights. But when they would research on this subject they would know what they have missing out on and would imply this to adults. If someone is getting punished and getting abused by their parents researching this they could find out that their parents cant do that so they could talk to someone to get help. Those are some of the reasons why I think children's rights are a important subject to learn.
ReplyDeleteThis is so true because everywhere around the world kids fell unsafe because they don't know their rights and cant stick up for what they believe in.

ReplyDeleteI think these right are important to know because as a kid I had know idea what childrens rights even were. Other countries have agreed with there rights but kids aren't getting them. Kids should be able to be kids and fight for there rights. We need to know what to stand up for. In conclusion we need to learn about these things.
ReplyDeleteLucas I think you made a great statement. I agree with what you said because it is true. The more the kids know about these thing, the more confident they feel. They also will feel safer because they know that they can tell people when these things are happening.
ReplyDeleteI think that the UNCRC is a great thing for the world. Every day, people are being abused and discriminated because of race and gender. Everyone has basic human rights. If you don't know about those simple human rights than you should very well learn it. Learning about it as a young person is a very smart idea. Children's minds are not developed so it will stick with them for a long time. Children have the right to education, so why are there children not going to school?
ReplyDeleteI think learning about the UNCRC is a very good idea since we are children. If we learn about our rights then we can also learn about what rights we have and what rights we don't have. For example, if a child doesn't know his or her rights, that child may get hurt or even violate rights that that child never knew he or she had.
ReplyDeleteI feel that the UNCRC is a project that every kid should do because we need to know our rights and protect ourselves. I think the U.S should sign the treaty because we are the only country that has not. The project will give kids more power which is what we need.

ReplyDeleteI think that we need to learn about the UNCRC, because we should be able to know our rights. People all over the world could get hurt or abused, because of the rights in their country. If you have watched the video, you should remember the part where the woman in Turkey was forced to get married. She said that when she got pregnant, her husband kicked her in her STOMACH. Later, her family came after her with guns. If we learn more about Children`s Rights and other Rights, we could possibly save a life. It is important to learn about our Rights and others - Abbie Tallman
This topic is very to me. I think it is important because I think everyone deserves the same amount of rights no matter what age you are. We are all human beings and all adults have power over kids and sometimes it really bothers me. I have talked to my parents about this topic before as well. Sometimes I feel as if I don't have control of myself. After seeing all the rights children have in other countries, it makes me feel as if I don't matter. I believe that the United States has made a bad decision on not signing the Rights of the Child. Maybe someday they will sign the Rights of the Child and finally realize children deserve their rights just as much as adults do.
